Glimpse into Your Inner World - Children's Coaching Cards

'A View into Your Inner World' is a set of coaching cards for children who suffer from performance anxiety/perfectionism and/or motivational problems. For child coaches, psychologists, remedial educationalists, etc.

This is version 2, created through a collaboration between Sacha Geerlings and FlexJuf.

Substantive information:

A View into Your Inner World is a set of 58 cards depicting:

• Tension in your body
• Feelings
• Thoughts
• Behavior
• Motivation

Each card features a character with a yellow or red star. The yellow star represents pleasant and/or helpful, while the red star represents unpleasant and/or unhelpful. Within the categories, there are 'blank' cards where the specific content can be determined by the child. These can be used if the child does not find their desired description on the other cards.

The cards can be used to discuss situations that are difficult for the child to deal with. The cards are laid out in the form of a 'comic strip' in which the child shows how and where he/she experiences tension, which feelings and thoughts he/she experiences, and what behavior he/she exhibits. Optionally, one can look at thoughts that specifically influence motivation for activities/tasks. This 'comic strip' can then be discussed with the child and contribute to gaining insight into how the child deals and would like to deal with situations that are difficult for him/her. Based on this, interventions can be implemented that focus on developing skills in emotion regulation, learning to deal with hindering or compelling thoughts, and making constructive behavioral choices. ACT is a well-suited method for this.
