Mirror Journal. Take more time to reflect on... yourself!

A practical and well-founded method for promoting emotional development in primary schools.
200 assignments for the entire school year, for all children from groups 3 to 8. This workbook focuses not on socio-emotional development, but on emotional development.

Reflecting is another word for mirroring. By looking at yourself 'in the mirror', you get to know yourself. How you think, what you feel, what emotions you have, how you react to things. And that helps you to better deal with (new) things, both pleasant and unpleasant. Reflection is difficult, but you can develop it. By practicing regularly, you learn to express your feelings, thoughts, and behavior better and better.

Five minutes every day

Every day, students complete a fill-in-the-blanks, drawing, music, or writing assignment about an emotion in their notebooks. By looking at themselves, students learn to recognize and name feelings.

Why this method?

Emotional development is something you preferably want to stimulate in conjunction with other developmental areas in daily practice, and not as a separate school subject. Reading and language, for example, also come to life in all other subjects and situations. In practice, it appears that in addition to an integrated approach, it helps to give structured and specific attention to certain skills, which can then be applied and practiced in other contexts. In addition to reading comprehension, it is high time for a method of living comprehension. Emotions are part of life. The development of emotional intelligence impacts all other developmental areas.

It's about you:

• Can use different words to say what you feel.
• Know that you can sometimes pretend to be happy when you are sad.
• Learn to recognize and understand your thoughts and feelings.
• Know what it looks like when you are angry, for example.
• Learn what helps when you feel uncomfortable.
• Practice with what you think, feel, and do.
