This game is a fun way to practice calculating with fractions in pairs. It also allows for strategic play. It's a combination of Canadian math and Connect 4!
Contents:
- 4 types of the 4-fractions-in-a-row card:
* fraction + fraction -> no simplification
* number x fraction -> no simplification
* number x fraction -> simplify
* Bonus: fraction plus or minus fraction -> simplify
- an instruction sheet
- 2x 15 red/yellow chips
- 2 pawns
In short:
Player 1 chooses a number/fraction from the top row and one from the bottom row and places the pawns next to them. They calculate the sum and find the answer on the playing field. A chip can then be placed on it with their color facing up.
Player 2 can move one of the pawns (strategically: which number is still needed to get 4-in-a-row?). They place a chip with their color facing up on the answer.
Who gets 4-in-a-row first?
Extra challenge: continue playing for a full card!
