If a card is no longer valid, it is placed on the discard pile. Cards are always taken from the draw pile. If you need to draw a card from another player's hand or retrieve one from the discard pile, this will be explicitly stated on a card. Cards are always played from your hand. Where they are placed depends on the type of card. If the text on a card indicates that one or more cards must be discarded, these cards are always placed on the discard pile.
