The children are in \u003cstrong\u003eThe Learning Pit\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\u003cli\u003e\n\n\u003cstrong\u003eMeaning-making\u003c\/strong\u003e – Children climb out of the Learning Pit, possibly with some help.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\u003cli\u003e\n\n\u003cstrong\u003eReflection\u003c\/strong\u003e – Children reflect on what they have learned.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\n\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Learning Pit is at the core of the Learning Challenge. When children come up with a solution to a cognitive conflict, we say they are 'in the Learning Pit'. This metaphor works well. Children are outside their comfort zone; it is an uncomfortable situation.
